Over the past two years, I’ve closely followed the case of Idaho nine-year-old Emrik Osuna, who died on September 2, 2020 after months of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse at the hands of his stepmother. Monique Osuna was working from home at the time due to COVID-19 restrictions.
You can read my previous coverage of Emrik’s case here.
Monique, as well as Emrik’s father, Erik Osuna, accepted plea agreements earlier this year, both pleading guilty to first-degree murder in exchange for prosecutors dropping the death penalty.
At Monique’s five-hour sentencing hearing on Thursday, June 9, 2022, prosecutors played almost 20 clips from the couple’s nanny-cams, showing the court nearly an hour of footage of Emrik’s abuse. Monique was sentenced to life in prison for her “sadistic, evil, and heartless” treatment of her stepson.
Erik’s sentencing hearing, scheduled for Friday, was canceled; he is now scheduled for a status conference on June 27 to set a date for his sentencing.
